Teen Volunteer Camp (Tamarindo)

An exciting and rewarding study abroad experience

If you believe that education, community work and conservation efforts can make the world a better place; and if you want to practice your Spanish in a fun and rewarding environment, this camp was made for you.

Through a real immersive cultural experience, volunteering at local elementary schools, turtle rescue centers, reforestation and conservation NGOs and working directly with rural communities you will not only improve your Spanish skills, but you’ll also help to make a difference in rural Costa Rica. You’ll have interactive and intensive Spanish classes in the morning combined with afternoon volunteer activities and weekend adventure tours, not only the whole experience will be exciting and rewarding but you'll also receive service hours for high school graduation.

The Teen Volunteer Camp takes place in Playa Tamarindo, located on the Northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Tamarindo is a world-famous tropical beach destination with nearly two miles of warm white sand and bright blue water.

The Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica is a dry forest area. This means that it gets the least rain and mostly sunny days, even during the green season. On the weekends we will visit the natural wonders of the region such as volcanos, waterfalls, rivers and beaches. We will raft, zip line, horseback ride, kayak and hike along with other adventure activities.

There are many ways to volunteer in Costa Rica and giving back to help protect the beauty of the natural environment is a top priority. This is why we have all our teen camp students participate in a beach clean-up each Friday.

Duration: weekly

Students can attend the camp as an overnight/residential camper (for students traveling without adults) or as a day camper (for students traveling with adults). Day campers attend all activities in the itinerary from Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm.

What to bring

Sturdy water shoes, rain ponchos, flashlights, multiple swimsuits, beach towels, at least one pair of pants, bug repellent and sunscreen are required.
Students are asked to bring all their belongings in a waterproof backpack.
It is not recommended that students bring any unnecessary electronic devices that might be ruined by exposure to rain or water.

Spanish Class

Spanish classes are held at our private Spanish Institute in Tamarindo, Guanacaste.
Classes are Monday to Friday 8am – 2:00pm, with a snack break at 10am.
All students are given a language evaluation to determine their level and then split up into classes that best fit their abilities.

Flight details

Airport pick up is not included in the camp price but can be arranged for an additional fee.
Students are recommended to fly into Liberia International Airport (LIR)

If two or more siblings sign up to attend our camps at the same time, they will each receive $50/week off! their Teen Spanish camp (residential or day camp) and $25/week off! the Children’s Spanish Camp. (Adult and Pre-K students are not eligible for this discount.)
