No prior surf or language experience necessary to join, although it does help! Our Surf Camp takes place in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica, which is located on the Northern Pacific coast.
Tamarindo is a world-famous surfing destination with three different beaches and dozens of different breaks in the immediate area. Saturday & Sunday

Weekend Adventure Tours: Each weekend we will explore the incredible beaches, countryside, forests and mountains of the surrounding Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica. This dry forest area is the perfect adventure playground with tons of amazing outdoor activities. There are adrenalin filled activities such as white-water rafting down class 3 and 4 rapids and zip lining 100 feet above the ground in the forest canopy. We jump off hidden waterfalls into deep swimming holes, snorkel in turquoise blue waters on tropical beaches and kayak through mangrove covered estuaries.
Saturdays will begin with breakfast at the camp compound before heading out by private or public transport to our first destination and adventure. Lunch and dinner are provided as well as the nights lodging. Accommodations range from a tent compound in a national park to a mountain eco resort with hot springs. On Sundays we will continue with the tour and travel to different sites and activities. We will return to Tamarindo by 5pm in the evening, just in time for sunset.

Monday (departing students only)

Students who sign up for the Airport Return Service, will be transported to the airport (LIR) as their flight times dictate. A staff member will drive with them to the airport and see that they get checked into their flight and through security. If students fly out in the afternoon or evening, they will receive lunch.

Additional Information

All activities are scheduled as listed, but are subject to change due to weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control. In case of a tour or activity being changed, we will do our best to reschedule. There is no refund for activities that cannot be made up.

Our private Spanish institute is literally right on the beach overlooking the ocean and is in the middle of town. This central location makes it walking distance to the surf, the lodging compound and all the local restaurants and shops. We participate in several cultural activities from Latin dance classes and cooking classes, to Yoga lessons on the beach to warm up for surfing. Spanish classes are from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon or 1:00 PM to 5:00PM. The weekly schedule will depend upon the tides to ensure the best surf. On the weekends, we will be exploring the surrounding Guanacaste Province, which is a Tropical Dry Forest region. This means that it gets the least rain and the sunniest days, even in the green season. There are mountains, volcanos, rivers, hidden waterfalls, deserted beaches, pristine islands and primary forests to discover.

We will raft down mountain rivers, zip line through forest canopies, horseback ride on white sand beaches, sea kayak to islands, swim in crystal blue bays and hike to towering waterfalls. ISLS is committed to helping protect the beauty and natural environment of Costa Rica. To give back, all students will participate in a beach clean-up each Friday and a portion of each student’s tuition is donated to the local Surf Rider Foundation.

Turrialba

The best kept secret in Costa Rica

Turrialba is a territory rich in ecosystems, full of plants and animals. This is the result of its geographical location: an area of 30 km² where there are temperatures close to 0 ° C – in the area surrounding the volcano – to the tropical climate of the town – which can exceed 35 ° C -.

Its economy depends on activities such as agriculture (coffee, sugar cane, pejibaye and macadamia), dairy farming (one of the most renowned cheeses bears his name) and tourism.

The raft (popularly known by its English name, rafting), is the king among tourists. To practice it highlights the Pacuare River, named as one of the 10 best rivers in the world for exercise and for families the Pejibaye River (with rapids II and III) is a perfect place that combines safety and fun. In addition, options for amusement are available through canyoning, mountain biking and hiking through local forests.
